he was ready by then — dressed into a brand-new uniform with the sceal of adarlan at his breast. the evening itself didn’t sound too appealing ( especially if it involved standing around and watching lords and ladies swirl across the ballroom ), but it would have to do. no matter how in control chaol felt, he couldn’t help but gape at celaena’s outfit for the shortest of moments. was it wrong to think her magnificent ? swiftly enough, he regained his composure, bronze eyes scanning her from head to toes. and so it begins, he sighed, offering her his arm. whatever you do, please don’t drag me into dancing. and remember– behave.

❝ You clean up well. ❞ The remark was meant to be part of their snarky banter she had grown so accustomed too, but instead came out awkward as Celaena quickly felt the heat rising to her cheeks betray her as she watched the captain of the guard eye her. Well, she wasn’t wrong, he did clean up well and looked rather dashing in his suit. Glancing away, she quickly distracted herself by smoothing out the already perfect pleats of her skirts before reluctantly taking his arm.  No promises –––––– on either matters.
