                not if you quit whining into my ears. the words were harsh but the tone playful, a reminder of how he loved teasing her. it was an old habit, picked up when he’d first arrived in terrasen, and it seemed to him he ought to KEEP it. he’d give her a normal childhood — as normal as one could be when spent as a fire-wielding princess, with a demi-fae teenager as her only guide and mentor. ( they could handle this ; more than could, they had to. ) aedion knelt on the mossy ground for her to climb. this is the last time, though, he warned. you’re too old for piggyback rides. well, he’d still be able to carry her for a while more, but… better not give her ideas. if you see a rabbit, kick me. or pull my hair. gently. the last pieces of meat we had started rotting.

              Her nose wrinkles at the thought. She didn’t much care for water You said that last time. ❞ She points out, a triumphant grin on her face as she climbs onto his back, taking a handful of the soft fabric of his tunic as she locks her arms around his neck.  They wouldn’t have rotted so quickly if you had let me cook them. She grumbles into his hair. And by cook, she means burned with her magic.
