AEDION.

though the real aedion kicked and screamed ( use the sword — cut the blasted ring off, stab me, i don’t even care anymore ), the demon who wore his face smiled. it was an unhuman smile, that one, as if someone were pulling the strings of a mummer’s face into an expression that wasn’t his own.  why so surprised, darling girl ? he lifted a hand, showing off the ring that shone there. beneath the golden wyvern and the white stag, the metal stone was black as COAL everyone was watching, and the king was most attentive of all. he wouldn’t have been able to leave, and so he chose to put the gift on. he bet his life on a simple gesture and was forced to ignore what irked him about it ; he gambled and he lost. it is so simple, i’m rather disappointed you didn’t notice a thing. it seems i am a good actor after all.  his hands moved to the blade resting at his hip, grazing the pommel.  you may have stopped one monarch, but there is no fighting what’s coming.

A VICIOUS snarl roiled through her at that smile, that voice.

There was nothing human about it.

It takes all of Aelin’s self control not to pounce on her cousin, her mind a massive whirlwind. She stalks around him with a PREDATORY gaze, if only to keep her feet moving, to calm the storm now RAGING through her. If only to assess whether Aedion was somewhere beneath those turquoise and gold eyes. She had been able to save Dorian from the Valg, and she would be DAMMED if she didn’t do the same for Aedion. Still circling him, she unsheathes Goldryn from across her back with lethal calm.

“ Aedion. ”    Her voice almost cracks at his name.  “ Show me a sign that you are still in there. One sign. And I will get this retched FILTH out of you. ”
