the capital is unfamiliar and so is she ; however, he trusts her enough to give his fellow riders a nod, leaving them to settle down and let their mounts rest in the stables, before following celaena the queen into the stone castle. shards of the glass one can still be found in the streets — he’s even seen some people COLLECT them, as a token, a reminder that once, another structure had stood there, magnificent and soaked in blood no one could see. his first reaction as he walks into her chambers is the same as in every room he enters: check every possible entrance and passageway, establish a quick mental map of the place, noting what could be used as a weapon or a shield. you still like reading, i see, ilias observes with a slight tilt of his head towards the tomes piled up on her desk. had i not wanted not to weight the horses down, i might have packed some. as for sign language, you wouldn’t have needed it. there are two other assassins in your courtyard, one seasoned and one in training. kailyn is trustworthy as a translator, as oll has decided not to break his vow, not even for you. if you, king dorian, or your councilmen have need of us, they may reach her first. and just like that, his face grows serious again as he sets down a scroll before her. you might want to read this later — it was written by my father and bears his sceal. what i can tell you right away, however, is that the keep will stand for erilea. we don’t usually do allegiances, especially not to a kingdom or another, but what good is a realm with no more targets in it ? we can stand not for one, but for ALL. beneath the grin, sea-green eyes hold real concern. if we were to offer our blades, would you accept ?

She gives a nod, a pile of books littering every available surface of her rooms. Sometimes she forgot how observant he was. How growing up alongside SILENCE forced the desert assassins to hone all their other senses instead. He had only been into her rooms once when she was sent to train with them in the red desert, and still his memory held firm. Oh, how she would have loved books from his continent !

❝ I suppose swaying one assassin to break his vows for me is victorious enough. Though I’m not sure why I would go through a trainee with such important matters when I could go through you myself. ❞ The corner of her mouth slides into a DANGEROUS smirk; although, it is shortly outlived when the piece of rolled parchment is set before her. She moves to tuck it into a bag where she will be able to read it privately that evening.

Although word of the assassins at the Red Keep offering their assistance to her was good news, she couldn’t help wonder what Ansel would think of this. Of whether or not she had taken back her fathers kingdom and what side she would ally with. Wyrd be dammed if she sided with Duke Perrington.  Of course, as long as this means I won’t be saving your ASS again the entire time. ❞ Her smiles returns, this time dancing with a quiet playfulness.
